Our Polyurethane Leading Edge Tape – also known as Helicopter Tape, was initially designed to protect light aircraft from the damaging effects of rain, insects, sand and the effects of most airborne particle damage. The basic principle of the protection effect is based on the very flexible but extremely resilient surface of the PU tape. This assimilates the impact energy of the floating particles and absorbs these or distributes the impact to a greater area.
In self adhesive roll format, this special impact absorbing product protects the leading edge of wings, suspension pieces, air dams and noses. It has high adhesive strength and conforms to compound curves. Sand, gravel and small stones that would quickly damage many surfaces, just bounce off this very tough tape.
Applications include - Surface & Paint Protection on Cars/Bikes & other vehicles, Protection against stone chips, scuffs and scratches, Erosion protection of the leading edge in Aircraft wings, struts, and both horizontal and vertical stabilizers.
Frequently used as frame protection tape on Mountain Bikes, BMX Bikes and Racing bikes. Works on Carbon, bare alloy or painted metal, protecting against cable rub, chain slap, the damaging effect of stone chips on downtubes and great on crank arms to stop shoe scuffs.
When applied it is invisible, hard wearing and extremely long lasting and is UV resistant so will not yellow in the sunlight.
Sometimes referred to as Helicopter tape it is frequently used on propellers and wind turbines. At blade speeds of up to 300 km/h, grains of sand, particles of salt, insects or other things floating in the air seem abrasive. This has a negative impact on the surface of the turbine blades, particularly on their leading edges. Here, there is abrasion of the turbine surface and, therefore, a loss in aerodynamics and stability. The adhesive has a long-term resistance to weathering and yellowing, even after several years. Thus, even damages under the film can be detected in the turbine blade inspections, which take place every 2 to 4 years. Ice adhesion and dirt residues are also reduced by the protective PU-film. |
